A few months ago I floated into Baconfest Chicago, feeling like I had just earned my wings to get into smoked hog heaven…
Although some time has passed, I can still taste the incredible mini maple cupcakes topped with bacon brittle…
…that I sampled in the vendors area. These heavenly morsels were made at a Chicago bakery simply named “more” (a cupcake boutique).
The delectable cupcake was the best thing I ate at Baconfest Chicago.
Now I understand why more is named more, I definitely want more and will have to make a trip into the city to get more (or I can order more).
I also picked up a bottle of spicy liquid bacon from the folks who had the revolutionary idea to create a hot sauce with intense smoky bacon flavor…
That picture of the fire breathing sweaty piggy just cracks me up!
Bacon Hot Sauce has a bold smoky flavor and the enticing aroma of fresh fried bacon. I really like this porky pepper concoction because it is just hot enough to wake up the taste buds, but not too hot.
It’s great mixed with ketchup and bbq sauces as a dip for grilled pork, chicken or beef. The smoky bacony hot sauce is also tasty stirred into sloppy joes for some added zing.
One kind of liquid bacon was not enough for Baconfest.
Bakon Vodka was served in the bar area mixed into free bloody Mary’s.
As I sipped my drink, I heard one happy patron yell out proudly “bacon lovers unite!” which got a big laugh and cheer from the crowd.
When I came accross Torani Bacon Syrup in the vendors area…
…I did a little happy dance.
The kind folks at Torani have since sent sent some Bacon Syrup along with a shaker of yummy Bacon Salt.
When my package arrived, the box was wrapped with bacon tape!
The tasty Bacon Syrup is great when mixed with spiced rum and ginger ale, and a twist of lime of course. I call this drink a ”Porky Pirate”.
The syrup is also intense when drizzled over peanut butter and banana sandwiches, Elvis would be proud!
Torani sent more flavored syrups …
..which I have been enjoying in drinks and mixed into fresh fruit salad. My daughter even created her own smoothie recipe using a combination of the flavored syrups, fruit, and yogurt.
Baconfest Chicago was a great time had by all who attended.
Check out the smiling patrons as they slowly stumbled out, bellies full and lips greasy…
I will remember (and taste!) Baconfest Chicago for a long time to come.
Thank you for reading my blog.
