A New York City deli classic, chocalate and vanilla joining harmoniously with a lemon cookie, no wonder everyone loves New York….

When trying to decide which Christmas cookies to make this year,  Sharyn (my lovely wife) searched foodnetwork.com.  The Black and Whites (Deli! Deli! Deli!) recipe, from Retro Desserts by Wayne Harley Brachman, seemed perfect.  We enjoy these sweet treats every time we are in NYC, making a point of getting a few to bring home too.  They would be a unique addition to our holiday cookies that we give to friends and family.

The recipe was easy to follow, but we had to make twice the icing necessary to frost all the cookies.  Keep the frosting warm in a double boiler so that it does not harden too quickly while you apply it.
