Peel Now or Forever Eat Your Peas, the OXO Corn Peeler

Published by Brad on September 16th, 2010 - in Uncategorized

Peel and freeze your local sweet corn now, it won’t be in season much longer!

It’s the end of this years corn harvest, so I bought many ears of fresh picked sweet corn from a local farm stand.

I like to peel the corn kernel’s off the cob then freeze them for the long winter haul without fresh picked local corn.

Peeled Corn Using OXO GOOD GRIPS Corn Peeler

Am I a corn snob?  For sure!

Sur La Table gave me an OXO Corn Peeler to try out, and their timing could not have been better.

OXO GOOD GRIPS Corn Peeler Up Close

The innovative curved design of the OXO Corn Peeler keeps the blade positioned to easily peel perfect kernels in a single motion.

The GOOD GRIPS  soft handle was comfortable to hold and easy to grip despite the slippery corn milk that that drenched my hand.

Using the OXO Corn Peeler was also much safer than using a knife to peel corn.

Corn, Glorious Corn

I was able to zip through five dozen ears of corn in no time.

After the corn was peeled, I packed it into freezer bags and froze it.  Now I can enjoy local sweet corn all winter long.

Corn ready to freeze

Thanks to Sur La Table and thanks to Oxo Good Grips  for providing me with such a useful kitchen utensil.  I’m sure it will come in handy for years to come.

Thank you for reading my blog.

Really?!? It works, huh? Haven’t tried mine out, yet – no local corn here right now, but when it is, guess I’ll be ready. Now I want to peel corn! :-D

Cool gadget! We always buy tons of corn, $3 a dozen, from local farmers here. I have never frozen any though. We just have a huge corn on the cob feast. I would love to freeze some though. So my question is, do you have to blanch the corn before freezing?

    • Brad says:

Hi Cheryl, I don’t blanch my corn before freezing it but I guess you could. I figure its best when frozen fresh because it will be cooked when used later on. Thanks for your question and kind comments!

  3. Did you get this in your goodie bag? I don’t think I did …. hmmm better go check. Just need a ton of corn now :-) I love corn!!!

Hey Brad … thanks for visiting Karmalized Life :) it’s the other side of my foodie self ;) I LOVED corn this summer and white sweet corn especially.
Thanks for reviewing this nifty peeler … while eating corn off the cob is fun, I feel I miss much of the corn so I love cutting mine off! Fresh corn un-cooked is one of my favorite salad toppings! See you in NYC!

Hi Lindsay, thanks so much for your kind coimments. I also enjoy fresh sweet corn cut from the cob onto a salad, I also like to chop up green onions for my salads.
I’m loking forward to seeing you in NYC also, have a great day!
