Check out this great picture of me with with Duff Goldman from Ace of Cakes!
When Sharyn told me that Duff was signing autographs at the Sears and Kmart headquarters to promote Girl Gourmet toys , I was really excited about the chance to meet the coolest cat on Food Network!
We anxiously waited in line for over an hour, hoping to meet him before the autograph session ended. Duff stayed well past his scheduled time and continued to greet his anxious fans with a friendly smile.
He autographed a picture for me, and also signed two Girl Gourmet Cake Bakery boxes which were later used as Christmas gifts. It was too cool when he surprised me by posing for our picture!
Duff is a really nice guy, I realized this while watching him talk with everyone who waited to meet him. He joked with kids and adults alike, signing autographs and posing for several pictures.
!!Thanks Duff!!

Thanks for reading my blog.
Brad
PS – After blogging about meeting Duff, his mother wrote some wonderful comments about the article, and confirmed that Duff does indeed love brisket!
I have had the pleasure of sharing many recipes and life experiences with Jacqueline, and thought you would enjoy her wit and perspective about raising “Duffy”, so I asked Jacqueline to write about her experiences.
I am truly honored and privileged to publish her guest blogger article…

Hi Brad, I read with interest your blog about taking a photo with my son, Duff. However you really got my attention with your brisket recipe. It's true, brisket is one of his favorite foods and he always asks me to make it whenever we're together. I've been adding a bit of liquid smoke to my brisket and lots of "Better than Buillion". Besides the website, are there any stores I can find the rub and smoke in a can? I think the idea sounds brilliant. By the way, I've always wanted to try a brisket on the grill and now that I have an adjustible one, I'm more than ready. Thanks for the cute photo of you and Duff – I've already downloaded it. That pose is just so him…
Best Regards, Jacqueline Winch, Duff Goldman's mom
Mrs. Winch, thanks so much for your wonderful comment. I saw on a recent Food Network special that Duff really likes brisket and now I know why! I will research other places to purchase the Flavorwood Smoke cans and let you know where to find them. I really appreciate that you took the time to read and comment on my blog.
I checked out http://www.jackiesglass.com and your mosaic portraits are beautiful!
Hi Brad, Thanks for the reply. I appreciate your help and if I do manage to get ahold of the smoke in a can, I'll finally try a brisket outside. The only thing – my briskets cook very low and slow and with liquid. I wonder if I can do the same on the grill (cook in liquid I mean).
Again, thanks for the nice and kind things you wrote about Duff. It always makes me feel great to know he gives joy to others. Happy New Year, Jacqueline
Hi Jacqueline, Happy New Year to you also!
It is definately possible to cook your brisket low and slow on the grill. I would suggest using a heavy roaster pan with a rack. Place the spiced brisket fatty side up on the rack and add beer (or water) to the bottom of the pan (maybe even a little liquid smoke?). Then cook low and slow in a covered grill. The liquid should steam and flavor the meat as it cooks to tender deliciousness. Be sure too add more liquid if it runs dry while cooking. The roast could also be placed in the liquid to shorten the cooking time, but should be seared first to develop the crust.
Duff also spent a lot of time with the children at the Sears/Kmart event during a cake making demo, which was such a cool and kind way to introduce children to cake making. My wife and I gave as Christmas gifts, the two signed Girl Gourmet Cake Bakery toys to the children of some friends. The kids and parents alike were so thankful, and really appreciated that he autographed the boxes.
Thank you for your kind words and interest in my blog. Meeting Duff was one of my sweetest experiences, and meeting his mother is icing on the cake!
Happy New Year to you and your readers Brad
